Juhi Chawla, who has starred in several movies alongside Shah Rukh Khan and is a close friend of the actor, recently revealed the intriguing backstory behind his famous stammering dialogue from the 1993 film Darr.
The origin of Shah Rukh’s ‘K-K-Kiran’ dialogue traces back to Yash Chopra. Yes, you read that right! The late filmmaker was the one who planted this idea in SRK’s mind. But how did it happen? Read on to find out!
Here’s How Shah Rukh Khan Created His Iconic Dialogue From Darr
Speaking at the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Chawla disclosed, “Shah Rukh was observant. Yash ji used to stammer a little, and Shah Rukh told me he picked up that mannerism from him.” She added, “He said – I am going to use it in the film, and that’s how it started. Thank God for that!”
What Shah Rukh Khan Said About It
In the Yash Raj Films production, Darr, SRK portrayed Rahul Mehra, a dangerously obsessed stalker fixated on Kiran, played by Chawla, who is married to Sunny Deol’s character, adding layers to his portrayal of the anti-hero.
During the Netflix docuseries The Romantics, Shah Rukh Khan shared an alternate account of the stammer’s genesis, citing inspiration from a classmate and extensive discussions with Aditya Chopra, Yash Chopra’s son and assistant director on Darr. He explained, “The stammer was meant to highlight a specific sound, like a sharp current that makes it difficult to say that particular word.” Shah Rukh suggested using this technique specifically when Rahul Mehra says “Kiran,” intensifying his character’s obsession.
SRK’s Work Front
On the professional front, Juhi Chawla’s most recent appearance was in Netflix’s original show, The Railway Men, while Shah Rukh Khan was last seen in the film Dunki.
Currently enjoying a vacation in London, Shah Rukh is set to star alongside his daughter Suhana Khan in Sujoy Ghosh’s upcoming film, King.
