Raveena Tandon has recently opened up about turning down a film with Shah Rukh Khan due to uncomfortable costumes. The actress, known for her collaborations with Khan in movies like Jaadu and Zamaana Deewana, revealed that she rejected the project because the costumes were, in her view, too objectifying.
Raveena Tandon REJECTED A Film With SRK Due To Weird Costumes
In an interview with Filmfare, Raveena explained that she was excited about the film until she saw the proposed outfits. “The costumes were really weird, and that was not something I would feel comfortable wearing,” she said. “I thought they were a little too objectifying.”
Raveena described how Shah Rukh Khan, known for his wit and warmth, was taken aback by her decision. “Shah Rukh was like, ‘Are you mad? Why are you saying no to it now?’” she recalled. Despite their good rapport and successful collaborations, including the well-loved Jaadu and Zamaana Deewana, Raveena stood firm on her principles.
She elaborated, “I said, ‘Shah, I can’t wear that stuff. I will feel funny and strange.’” Raveena admitted that while she has performed in sensuous songs like “Tip Tip Barsa Paani,” she always ensured that her costumes were not sleazy. Her decision to reject the film was based on her discomfort with the portrayal.
Raveena Praises Shah Rukh Khan
Raveena also praised SRK and said, “Because we were already doing a film which had the most amazing music, called Jaadu, and also Zamana Deewana. We really used to get-along. I think Shah Rukh is the wittiest, warmest, and gentlemanly co-actor to work with. He is decent to the core, there are no two ways about that.”
This wasn’t the first time Raveena turned down a role with Shah Rukh Khan. She also previously rejected the role in the 1993 film Darr, which she found uncomfortable due to certain scenes. Additionally, she declined the role in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, which eventually went to Rani Mukerji, because she didn’t want to play a secondary part.
Raveena Tandon’s recent project is the romantic drama Ghudchadi, where she stars alongside Sanjay Dutt. Directed by Binoy Gandhi, the film premiered on Jio Cinema on Friday.
