As of March 13, 2026, the two actors are not coming together for director Amit Ravindranath Sharma’s next high concept romantic comedy, despite earlier buzz suggesting otherwise.
The clarification is significant because the pairing is already generating curiosity due to their other confirmed collaboration, and the industry is watching Shahid’s next moves closely as he balances theatrical films with marquee OTT work.

Box Office Worldwide has exclusively learned that Shahid Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna are not part of Amit Ravindranath Sharma’s next rom-com.
According to information shared from within the development, Shahid was offered the project but chose not to proceed. The reason cited is straightforward. He did not want to take on another romantic comedy after his commitment to Cocktail 2, and he decided not to even hear the script.
Rashmika, meanwhile, was never approached for the film in the first place. The update also states that her lineup for the coming year is already packed with feature films, and this particular project was not on her table. With Shahid no longer in consideration, the director is understood to be weighing other names for the lead.
The film is being produced by Sunir Kheterpal in association with Jio Studios. At this stage, the shoot timeline is linked to the availability and finalisation of the cast, which is still being worked out.
Shahid Kapoor’s Recent And Upcoming Work
Shahid was last seen headlining the romantic drama Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya (2024), a theatrical release that paired him with Kriti Sanon. On the OTT front, he made a successful streaming debut with Farzi (Prime Video, 2023), directed by Raj and DK, which expanded his footprint beyond cinema audiences.
As for what is next, Shahid is currently shooting Farzi Season 2, reuniting with Raj and DK for the continuation of the popular series. On the film side, his only confirmed on paper collaboration with Rashmika at the moment remains Cocktail 2, which also stars Kriti Sanon and has been positioned as a major theatrical release in 2026.
