A celebratory evening for Hindi cinema quietly turned into a moment of legacy-building when veteran film personality Kiran Shantaram publicly backed Siddhant Chaturvedi for one of the most daunting parts of his career: playing the legendary filmmaker V. Shantaram on the big screen. The endorsement came while Shantaram presented an award to the actor at a public event, using the stage to underline why this biopic is more than just another period film.
With Indian cinema in the middle of a nostalgia wave, this project is shaping up to be a rare family-led tribute, driven by heritage as much as by filmmaking ambition.
The Latest Update: Kiran Shantaram Reiterates The 2026 Milestone Plan
At the event, Kiran Shantaram told the audience the biopic is being developed as a tribute to his father’s towering contribution to Indian cinema, and that the team hopes to bring it to theatres on November 18, 2026. The date is being positioned to coincide with the 125th birth anniversary year of V. Shantaram, who was born in 1901 and remains one of the most influential pioneers to shape Indian filmmaking across the silent era and the transition into sound and colour.
On Siddhant, Shantaram expressed confidence in the actor stepping into the role, signalling that the film is being mounted with a strong sense of responsibility to both history and craft.
The biographical drama is expected to trace the filmmaker’s journey and his artistic impact through landmark works such as Do Aankhen Barah Haath, Navrang and Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baaje, films that married social ideas with bold cinematic technique.
