Amid the controversy surrounding the film The Kerala Story, veteran actress Shabana Azmi tweeted that it is wrong to demand a ban on the film, given that it has been cleared by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). She compared the situation to the controversy surrounding Aamir Khan’s film Laal Singh Chaddha, which also faced calls for a ban. However, Kangana Ranaut disputed Azmi’s claim, stating that people did not want to see Laal Singh Chaddha for various reasons, including the fact that it was a remake of a popular Hollywood classic that most people had already seen.
The Kerala Story has been generating controversy, with some people celebrating its box office success while others criticize it for distorting facts. The film has also been pulled from theaters in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu amid a threat of protests. During all this, Azmi tweeted that once a film has been passed by the CBFC, nobody has the right to become an extra-constitutional authority. Kangana Ranaut disagreed with Azmi’s comparison of the two films, stating that people did not want to see Laal Singh Chaddha for various reasons, while no one was calling for a ban on the film.
The controversy surrounding The Kerala Story has sparked a debate on social media, with people expressing their opinions on the film and the calls for a ban. While some support the film and its message, others criticize it for spreading hate and promoting a dangerous conspiracy theory.
