Actor and MP Sunny Deol is at the centre of a controversy, facing serious allegations from film producer Sorav Gupta.
At a recent press conference, Gupta, a real estate developer turned film producer from Sundawn Entertainment Pvt Ltd, accused Deol of cheating, extortion, and forgery.
According to Gupta, Deol accepted advance payments for a film project in 2016 but never fulfilled his commitment, particularly after his recent success with Gadar 2.
Producer Claims Sunny Deol Had Signed A Rs 4 Crore Deal With Him
Gupta recounted his experience while talking to HT City, saying he signed a deal with Deol in 2016, agreeing to pay Rs 4 crore for his role in a film.
“We gave him Rs 1 crore in advance, but instead of starting my film, he opted to shoot for Poster Boys (2017) instead. He kept asking me for more money, and by now my Rs 2.55 crore is in Sunny ji’s account. He also made me give money to another director, book Filmistaan studio, and get an executive producer,” Gupta explained.
The situation took a turn for the worse in 2023 when Gupta discovered what he claims to be a forged agreement with Deol’s company. “When we read the agreement, we saw that he had changed a page in the middle, increasing the fee amount from Rs 4 crore to Rs 8 crore and the profit share to Rs 2 crore,” Gupta alleged.
Andaaz Producer Suneel Darshan Also Accuses Sunny Deol
Filmmaker Suneel Darshan, known for films like Janwar (1999) and Andaaz (2003), supported Gupta’s claims at the press conference.
Darshan shared his own troubling experiences with Deol, stating, “Sunny Deol acquired rights from my movie Ajay (1996) for overseas distribution and only made a partial payment. The balance payment never came through. Later, Sunny requested me to work on a project with him, saying, ‘Have faith in me, help me out,’ and got me to pay him again.”
Another Shocking Allegation On Gadar 2 Actor
An anonymous industry source revealed that Deol has a reputation for dishonouring commitments with several producers. “He has been a known troublemaker for years. Sunny had given a bound script of a film called Ram Janmbhumi to a producer who created a huge set in Mumbai. Sunny signed the film for Rs 5 crore. But later, he refused to come to the sets and demanded a fee of Rs 25 crore because he had delivered a blockbuster (Gadar 2, 2023),” the source said.
In light of these allegations, Gupta has taken legal action by filing a police complaint against Deol. “The police issued [Deol] a notice on April 30. His office sent a letter saying he was out of town on the day he was to present himself,” Gupta reported.
Attempts to reach Sunny Deol for his response have so far been unsuccessful.
