To celebrate Sidhu Moosewala‘s thirty-second birthday, BBC World Service released the highly anticipated two-part film about the life and legacy of the slain Punjabi rapper, simply dubbed a tribute to the Old Skool hitmaker. The documentary was released amid controversy and a legal battle during its public screening in Mumbai.

Documentary Covers Early Life, Fame, and Tragic Death

The BBC dove into Sidhu Moosewala’s rise to fame in Punjabi music, his global cult following, the controversy surrounding him, and ultimately, the horrific assassination that shocked millions in 2022.

The documentary is now available free of charge on YouTube, in both English and subtitled versions, bringing renewed attention to Moosewala’s legacy.

Legal Battle: Sidhu’s Father in Court to Prevent Screening

According to a report, Sidhu Moosewala’s father, Balkaur Singh, has filed a legal petition in Mansa Court, Punjab, to stop the screening of the documentary.

The family’s primary complaint is that the film was made without permission, and they believe there are false implications about the murder of their son.

The Mumbai showing, which occurred on the same day as the YouTube drop, is being examined, and the BBC has not officially responded to the legal challenge.

Three New Songs Drop: Moosewala Lives Through Music

Even as the legal front continues to rage on, fans had something to enjoy — three brand new songs by Sidhu Moosewala were released on his official YouTube channel under the posthumous EP “Moose Print”.

These are the latest additions to a growing list of 11 posthumous songs, establishing his presence even in death. The songs are already trending across streaming platforms, with Moosewala’s lyrical grit and Punjabi pride leading the way.

On June 11, 1993, in Moosa village, Punjab, Sidhu Moosewala was born into a world that would come to see him as a global patron of hip hop. He went from tracks like So High, Legend, and Same Beef to revolutionising how communities worldwide express identity, rebellion, and the angst of youth.

Sidhu Moosewala was shot and killed on May 29, 2022, in broad daylight — a murder that remains unresolved in public consciousness.
