Actress Shares Her Beginnings, A Comment from SRK That Changed Her Life & An Unanticipated Suggestion
For many, Shah Rukh Khan was the epitome of a romantic legend during the 90s. But for actress Dipshikkha Nagpal, meeting the superstar on the set of Koyla was not quite what she expected when she first met him.
In a recent free and open conversation, Dipshikkha divulged how a condescending comment from SRK led her to one of the biggest turning points in her life.
“Let’s See”: That Hit Hard
Speaking about her first day on Rakesh Roshan’s 1997 film Koyla, Dipshikkha stated that she was in absolute awe of Khan. But she would not be mesmerised for long.
“When Shah Rukh came, he was smoking. Rakesh ji introduced me and said, ‘She’s a great actress.’ SRK said, ‘Yeah, let’s see.’ That was like an ego hit.”
The comment shocked her, because not only was she a huge fan of SRK, but it was also the sudden coldness from someone she revered as an idol.
“I loved him. It was so unexpected. But I took it as a challenge,” the actress elucidated.
Her first scene with SRK was, very fittingly, the two were very intimate — she was meant to die in his arms.
While it has since been cut from the film, Dipshikkha remembers it like it was yesterday:
“I can still smell his vibe,” she said.
A Change from Cold Shoulder to Quiet Support
However, time did change their professional dynamic. Dipshikkha went on to make her mark in SRK’s film Baadshah, where she had an important supporting role. Unknown to her at the time, Khan had personally endorsed her.
“After Baadshah, Ratan Jain told me that Shah Rukh recommended my name. He never told me. That’s his greatness,” she said.
In time, while they did become friends, Dipshikkha maintained professionalism and neutrality with Khan.
“I was focused on my work and maybe he paid attention. I didn’t realise he was observing.”
The Pivotal Moment She Never Expected
Thinking back and considering how it all unravelled, Dipshikkha expresses profound gratitude for the sharp talk, which she referred to as tough love.
“If he hadn’t said ‘let’s see’, I probably wouldn’t have ended up in Baadshah. In fact, that harsh moment gave me resolve.”
Dipshikkha went on to star in several films, including Partner, Jaanam Samjha Karo, Dillagi, and more recently, in the legal drama Raisinghani VS Raisinghani and Ishq Jabariya. However, it was this brief connection with SRK that unknowingly helped ignite her resilience.
