Get ready for some major box office drama. Single-screen theatres across the country are facing a big dilemma as the distributors of Tere Ishk Mein have put forth a two-week commitment demand. This condition is creating serious problems for theatre owners who also want to showcase Dhurandhar in good numbers next week.
AA Films, owned by Anil Thadani, has asked single screens to sign an agreement. According to this agreement, theatres must play all shows of Tere Ishk Mein this week. All theatres have agreed to this directive. However, the distribution team has further instructed that theatres must commit to 2 shows of Tere Ishk Mein next week as well.
The Dhurandhar Problem
Dhurandhar releases next Friday, December 5. If single-screen hall owners agree to the demand put forth by AA Films, they will have to play the Ranveer Singh starrer with just 2 shows in order to accommodate Tere Ishk Mein. Theatre owners have serious reservations about this arrangement.
The reason is simple. They want to give reasonable showcasing to Dhurandhar as well. The spy thriller starring Ranveer Singh has massive buzz, and limiting it to just 2 shows would mean losing out on potential business. Single screens are caught between two big films.
Booking Yet To Start In Many Theatres
As of November 26 morning, booking of Tere Ishk Mein has yet to begin at many major Mumbai theatres. This includes Maratha Mandir, PVR Le Reve Bandra, Inox Nakshatra Dadar, MovieMax Andheri East, MovieTime Suburbia, and several others. The advance booking has begun only in select cinemas like Regal, Gold Cinema Thane, and Gold Cinema Borivali.
However, there is hope. In theatres where booking has started, 4 shows of Tere Ishk Mein have been allotted. This has given hope that a solution will be achieved soon and the bookings will commence across the country in full force.
Why Theatres Are Desperate
Single-screen theatres are hoping that this deadlock is resolved soon. They are very keen to play Tere Ishk Mein, looking at the strong booking trends. None of the releases this month has scored in their theatres. The last successful film was released more than a month ago.
As a result, theatre owners are very eager to play the massy flick Tere Ishk Mein and also Dhurandhar. Both films have strong potential to bring audiences back to single screens. The distributors and theatre owners need to find a middle ground that works for everyone.
