Bollywood’s most enduring characters are gearing up for a new chapter, and this time, the plan is bigger than a straight-up reboot. As of February 25, 2026, Shehzad Sippy has laid out an ambitious roadmap to extend Sippy Films’ legacy titles into a modern franchise ecosystem, with sequels, spin-offs, and fresh stories that draw directly from the banner’s classic film IP.
The banner’s library includes landmark films like Seeta Aur Geeta (1972), Sholay (1975), Shaan (1980) and Shakti (1982), movies that not only shaped mainstream Hindi cinema but also created characters that have lived on for decades in pop culture. Now, Shehzad is preparing to reintroduce those characters to a new generation across formats.
The Latest Update
Speaking from the US, Shehzad confirmed he has been working on the strategy for the past decade, inspired by how iconic characters can become a studio’s biggest asset. “The idea came to me when I [attended] a chat by Peter Cuneo, who spoke about how he had taken Marvel from bankruptcy all the way to its sale to Disney. He mentioned how they had a great asset in all the characters,” he said, adding that the thought pushed him to build on Sippy Films’ characters “in the form of new films, animation series, games, and merchandise.”
Before moving forward, Shehzad said it was essential to have the family on board, especially filmmaker Ramesh Sippy. “He was supportive. We’re building on his movies and characters. So, it was important for me that he’d be a part of the process,” he shared.
While action titles like Sholay, Shaan and Seeta Aur Geeta form the “core” of the banner’s identity, Shehzad revealed the first project from this new expansion will be an animation series. It will be “based on a character from the existing IPs,” though he chose not to name the character yet. On its timeline, he said, “It will release in September or October.”
He also confirmed that the second project is already locked as a theatrical film currently in pre-production. The intention is to build it into a franchise, possibly as a spin-off or a prequel to an existing IP. The shoot, he said, is planned to begin in October.
