With just weeks to go for Dhurandhar: The Revenge to hit theatres, the Aditya Dhar directed sequel has found an unlikely but headline grabbing cheerleader in Ram Gopal Varma. Never one to mince words, the filmmaker has thrown his weight behind the film with a fiery social media note that frames the Ranveer Singh led spy thriller as more than just a big release, calling it a potential turning point for mainstream Hindi cinema.
The buzz around Dhurandhar 2 has been steadily rising, thanks to its franchise momentum and its stacked ensemble that includes Ranveer Singh, R Madhavan, Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal and more. But Varma’s latest take adds a different kind of intrigue, not about box office hype, but about what kind of filmmaking might dominate next.
The Latest Update: RGV’s Blunt Praise For Aditya Dhar And Dhurandhar 2
On X, Ram Gopal Varma praised Aditya Dhar’s approach and compared Dhurandhar 2 to an extinction level event for formula cinema. He wrote that the film “can be a COSMIC COLLISION” that could bring an end to what he called the “DINOSAUR ERA” of filmmaking, which he described as the era of “sheer volume”, “artificial heroism” and the routine “masala treatment”.
In the same post, Varma argued that if audiences connect with the sequel’s filmmaking style, movies built purely on scale, heavy visual effects, gravity defying stunts and image driven heroism may begin to feel dated. He also suggested that directors and stars who depend on larger than life packaging will have to rethink their playbook if viewers start preferring characters that evolve organically inside a story rather than arriving fully formed as invincible icons.
Dhurandhar: The Revenge is scheduled for a theatrical release on March 19, 2026, making it one of the biggest Hindi titles lined up for March.
