RRR was easily the biggest Indian film of last year. The film, directed by SS Rajamouli, was a major critical and commercial success in India, grossing over 1,000 crores and breaking all the records. Later on, the film gained massive popularity in the United States where people were going crazy over the historical period drama. RRR bagged a Golden Globe Award and the song Nattu Nattu was nominated for an Oscar.
The film is still stirring at the box office in Japan where it is aiming to complete one year at the box office. The magnum opus was released on 21st October 2022 after breaking box-office records in India. After some time, it was able to gross 100 crores in Japan, which is a big achievement. According to media reports, the film has so far minted around 136.70 crores in Japan alone. This week, the number of screens will expand where its dubbed versions will be showcased.
There are also murmurs that the film might complete one year at the Japanese box office which is unthinkable. Looking at the total earnings, RRR stands at a whopping 1276 crore and it will gross the 1300 mark in Japan. Currently, RRR is the third highest-grossing Indian film behind Dangal and Rajamouli’s own Baahubali 2: The Conclusion.

A Sequel Is In Works
The film’s writer and SS Rajamouli’s father Vijayendra Prasad recently talked about the possibility of a sequel. He said, “Sir, it’s both a yes and a no…After the release of RRR I shared an idea of the sequel where the story continues with Sitarama Raju (Ram Charan) and Komaram Bheem (NTR Jr) set in Africa.” Vijayendra frequently writes the script of his son and the two also had a discussion over an RRR sequel.
“My son liked it and asked me to develop it into a full script,” Vijayendra said. He then explained that the film will happen in the future once his son finishes his upcoming project with Mahesh Babu. “Right now he is fully into the movie with Mahesh Babu…and knowing my son’s temperament he will not pay any attention to the sequel-idea till the movie with Mahesh is finished…After that if he likes my script and if both the heroes like the script and if they have the time ….Insha Allah!,” he said. There were earlier reports that a Hollywood director might helm the sequel.
