RRR was easily the biggest Indian film of last year. The film, directed by SS Rajamouli, was a major critical and commercial success in India, grossing over 1,000 crores and breaking all the records. Later on, the film gained massive popularity in the United States where people were going crazy over the historical period drama. RRR bagged a Golden Globe Award and the song Nattu Nattu was nominated for an Oscar.
Since then, there have been talks about the film’s sequel. Now, the film’s writer and SS Rajamouli’s father Vijayendra Prasad has spilled the beans on this topic. He said, “Sir, it’s both a yes and a no…After the release of RRR I shared an idea of the sequel where the story continues with Sitarama Raju (Ram Charan) and Komaram Bheem (NTR Jr) set in Africa.”
Father-Son Talked About A Sequel
Vijayendra frequently writes the script of his son and director SS Rajamoulu’s films. The two also had a discussion over an RRR sequel. “My son liked it and asked me to develop it into a full script,” Vijayendra said that the film will happen in the future once his son finishes his upcoming project with Mahesh Babu. “Right now he is fully into the movie with Mahesh Babu…and knowing my son’s temperament he will not pay any attention to the sequel-idea till the movie with Mahesh is finished…After that if he likes my script and if both the heroes like the script and if they have the time ….Insha Allah!,” he said. There were earlier reports that a Hollywood director might helm the sequel.
Rajamouli Is Working With Mahesh Babu
Rajamoulis’s upcoming film with Mahesh Babu is tentatively titled SSMB 29. With a mysterious and intriguing title, the film has already generated a substantial buzz. The director and his team plan to officially announce the film on the 48th birthday of Mahesh Babu, which is on August 9. The celebrated director will take around two months to complete the script. Post the announcement, he will once again narrate the story to Mahesh after which they will proceed further.
The post-production of SSMB29 is expected to start in early 2024. With films like Baahubali, Eega, and RRR under his belt, Rajamouli is one of the most successful directors in India. SSMB29 is reportedly a jungle adventure film that is expected to hit the silver screen across the globe sometime in 2025.
