SS Rajamouli is diving straight back into SSMB29 on a thunderous note. After presenting the first glimpse of Varanasi at La Cinémathèque Française in Paris on June 27, the filmmaker is resuming work on his ambitious film starring Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra, and Prithviraj. From July 7, Rajamouli and Mahesh Babu move into one of the movie’s biggest action set-pieces in Hyderabad, a massive war schedule mounted with 3,500 junior artistes.
The new leg underlines the scale of a production that has already become one of the most closely watched films in Indian cinema. This time, the action shifts to a battle sequence designed to push spectacle to another level.

A production insider said, “Preparations have been going on for weeks ahead of shooting the war sequence. The scale is unprecedented, even by Rajamouli’s standards.”
That is only the opening move. According to another insider, the visual ambition stretches far beyond what will be captured live on set. The source shared, “Thousands of performers will later be expanded digitally through VFX, resulting in an army that is several times larger on screen. The ambition is to create one of the biggest battle spectacles attempted in Indian cinema. We will see 50,000 vanars on screen.”
If executed as planned, the Hyderabad leg will become one of the defining schedules of SSMB29, blending practical staging with extensive digital augmentation. The film has already generated strong curiosity because it brings together Rajamouli and Mahesh Babu for the first time, alongside Priyanka Chopra and Prithviraj in major roles.

That followed Sarkaru Vaari Paata in 2022, co-starring Keerthy Suresh, and Sarileru Neekevvaru in 2020, one of his major box office successes.
