On Thursday, July 18, the Stree 2 team—actors Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, and Abhishek Banerjee—joined forces with director Amar Kaushik and producer Dinesh Vijan in Mumbai to unveil the film’s trailer.
After showcasing the trailer to the media and fans, producer Dinesh Vijan announced that Stree 3, the third instalment of the Stree franchise, is in the works.
Dinesh Vijan CONFIRMS Stree 3
Dinesh Vijan described the Stree franchise as a “paisa vasool” series. He mentioned that Stree 2 is like a mothership, addressing many questions from the first film and revealing new connections. Following Stree 2, a film called Thama will be released, with more details to come later. Vijan also noted that Stree 3 is already written, so the wait between the films will be shorter.
He added, “One thing I can tell you about Stree 2 is it is bigger, madder, and crazier. The trailer shows only 10 percent of it because it has a lot of visual effects, and we want to leave that for the theatre. But if you come in, it is Maddock’s most paisa vasool film.”
Filmmaker Reveals Why He Created Horror-Comedy
The filmmaker also shared why he created the horror-comedy universe. “We’ve put comedy in horror because I can’t watch horror films. I think there are a lot of people like me who cannot watch pure horror. That’s why we came up with the horror comedy universe.”
Here’s What Took 5 Yrs For The Sequel
After the massive success of Stree in 2019, fans expected a quick release for the sequel. However, it took over five years for Stree 2 to come out. Director Amar Kaushik explained the delay, saying they didn’t want to make the film just because the first one was a hit.
They aimed for a perfect story and screenplay, with higher levels of horror and humour. They were also creating a horror-comedy universe, which required time to connect all the stories. Additionally, the COVID-19 pandemic caused further delays.
Stree 2 is directed by Amar Kaushik under the banner of Jio Studios and Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films. The film, starring Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, and Pankaj Tripathi, is scheduled to be released on August 15, coinciding with India’s 77th Independence Day.
