The makers of Kalki 2898 AD have initiated legal action against Bollywood influencers Sumit Kadel and Rohit Jaiswal. The influencers have accused the film’s makers of inflating box office figures by over 100 crores on social media.
According to Bollywood Hungama, the legal notice, which cites defamation, was sent to both Kadel and Jaiswal. The notice demands a sum of Rs 25 crores for damages caused by their allegedly slanderous tweets.
Here’s How The Controversy Started
The controversy began when Kadel and Jaiswal, known in the industry as “samosa critics,” took to their social media accounts to claim that the box office figures provided by the producers of Kalki 2898 AD were fabricated. They have been consistently tweeting about this issue, calling the producers “cheaters.”
A source close to the situation revealed to Bollywood Hungama, “Sumit Kadel has already received the legal notice, while Rohit Jaiswal is expected to receive it by the end of Friday, July 19, or at the latest by Saturday.”
Kalki 2898 AD Makers Demand Source With Daily Collections From The Influencers
When pressed for more details, the source explained, “The legal notice demands that both influencers provide the source of the box office figures they have cited. They must also submit daily collections with a territorial breakdown to support their claims. If they fail to do so within a specified time frame, they will be liable to pay the producers Rs. 25 crores for spreading false information.”
The source added, “These individuals have a history of making such allegations without proper evidence. It’s why they are notoriously referred to as samosa critics in the industry.”
Sumit Kadel Was Earlier Slammed By Vidyut Jammwal For Demanding Bribe
This isn’t the first time Sumit Kadel has found himself in hot water this year. Earlier, during the release of the action film Crakk, lead actor and producer Vidyut Jammwal publicly called out Kadel. In a viral tweet, Jammwal wrote, “Asking for bribe is a crime, and giving one is a crime too!! My crime is not giving??? #sumitkadel…so everytime you praise someone -we know the criminal..”
