Sunny Deol’s Gabru Again Postponed, Won’t Release On May 8

Sunny Deol’s busy 2026 slate has hit an unexpected pause point. Gabru, the actor’s upcoming emotional drama, has been postponed for the second time and will no longer release on May 8, after first moving from its earlier March 13 date. For a star currently enjoying one of his strongest theatrical phases in years, the delay instantly turns this modestly mounted film into a closely watched scheduling story.

That renewed attention is also tied to the curiosity around Gabru itself. While the makers have kept the plot under wraps, the film has stayed on the industry radar because of its release reshuffles and the promise of a notable special appearance that adds extra pull to the package.

Gabru’s Release Plan Changes Again

Box Office Worldwide has exclusively learned that Gabru has again been postponed and will not release on May 8. The makers are yet to announce a fresh release date.

The film had earlier been scheduled for March 13 before moving to May 8, and this latest shift confirms a second release-date change. With the theatrical calendar getting increasingly crowded over the coming weeks, the postponement places Gabru back in the middle of a release-strategy reset. The timing matters even more because Sunny Deol is currently in a strong box office phase, which naturally raises expectations around every film attached to his name.

Why The Film Has Stayed On The Radar

Directed by Shashank Udapurkar and produced by Vishal Rana, Gabru stars Sunny Deol in the lead and is positioned as an emotional drama. Rakul Preet Singh is also associated with the project. One of the film’s most talked-about elements remains Salman Khan’s extended special appearance, which has been described as a substantial presence rather than a brief cameo.

Even without a new release date in place, those details have ensured the film continues to generate conversation. For now, though, the spotlight is firmly on when the makers choose to bring it back onto the release calendar.

Why This Delay Lands Differently In Sunny Deol’s Current Run

The postponement stands out because it arrives at a time when Sunny Deol’s theatrical pull has sharply strengthened. Gadar 2 in 2023 became a blockbuster and marked a major revival in his box office journey. That renewed momentum carried forward with Jaat in 2025, which posted a decent theatrical run and showed that audiences were still turning up for the actor in commercial space.

In 2026, Border 2 further reinforced that streak after emerging as a major grosser. That is exactly why a release shuffle for Gabru carries more weight than it might have otherwise. The film now sits alongside other confirmed Sunny Deol projects that continue to draw attention, including Lahore 1947, produced by Aamir Khan and directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, and Ramayana, in which he is set to play Lord Hanuman. With that kind of line-up in motion, the new date for Gabru has become more than a routine update. It is now a meaningful piece of Sunny Deol’s current screen momentum.
