Sunny Deol’s Lahore 1947 Gets A Major Independence Week Release Date, Set To Clash With Naagzilla, Battle Of Galwan, Fauzi, Jailer 2 And Love And War

Aamir Khan Productions has officially set the theatrical release date for Lahore 1947, the much awaited period drama headlined by Sunny Deol. The film is now locked for an Independence Day week arrival, a strategic window that also syncs with the film’s Partition era setting and its emotional, history rooted narrative.

The makers have confirmed that Lahore 1947 will hit cinemas on August 13, 2026, positioning it for the long holiday weekend and the patriotic moviegoing rush that typically follows.

Lahore 1947 Release Date Confirmed For August 13, 2026

The confirmation places Lahore 1947 among the biggest Bollywood releases of 2026, especially given its scale and the creative names attached to it. The film is directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced under Aamir Khan Productions, marking a notable first time association between Sunny Deol and Aamir Khan in the same project, albeit with Aamir backing the film as producer.

With its release planned during Independence week, the makers appear to be leaning into the heightened audience interest for stories rooted in India’s past. The date also suggests that the production is firmly on track for a wide theatrical rollout.

Aamir Khan’s Official Quote On Showing The Film To Dharmendra

In a heartfelt official statement connected to the film, Aamir Khan shared that he had the chance to screen Lahore 1947 for veteran actor Dharmendra.

He said, “I’m fortunate I got to spend some time with him (Dharamji). In fact, Lahore, the film we’ve made with Sunny, I had the good fortune of showing him the film. So he’s seen the film. It’s not released yet, of course. But I was so glad because this was one of his favorite scripts. I’m so glad he got to see the film.”

Cast, Music And Story Details Add To The Buzz

Beyond Sunny Deol in the lead, Lahore 1947 features an ensemble that includes Shabana Azmi, Preity Zinta, Karan Deol, Ali Fazal, and Abhimanyu Singh. The music is composed by AR Rahman, with lyrics by Javed Akhtar, a combination that raises expectations for a powerful soundtrack to match the film’s heavy emotional themes.

The story is based on Dr. Asghar Wajahat’s acclaimed play ‘Jis Lahore Nai Vekhya, O Jamya E Nai’. Instead of only focusing on political events, Lahore 1947 explores the human cost of Partition through themes of displacement, loss, and the fragile search for coexistence.

For Sunny Deol, the film follows his appearance in Border 2, while for Aamir Khan Productions, it continues a slate of content driven cinema with a strong historical anchor.
