According to a trusted source, there are about 15 days of shooting left for Lahore 1947. Apparently, Deol has put a hold on it for now, worrying that the film’s message of shared humanity and empathy during the Partition era could be misrepresented in the present sharp environment.
“He loves the subject matter of the film, but he fears it will be misrepresented by the vested interests, especially at a time when passions are running so hot,” said the source.
Lahore 1947 is the second release directed by Rajkumar Santoshi with production by Aamir Khan, also starring Preity Zinta, Ali Fazal, and Aamir Khan himself in a cameo appearance. It is adapted from a play by Syed Asghar Wajahat, Jis Lahore Nahi Dekhya, which has a sensible interpretation of the sentiments both in India and Pakistan during the Partition.
Border 2 to Arrive First: The Mood Matches the Moment
Industry people tell us that Sunny Deol is now betting on Border 2, the long-awaited sequel to his 1997 blockbuster Border, in which he is again fighting against Pakistan—which clearly has more relevance in today’s political scenario.
The movie is presumably set to be released on Republic Day, 2026. It is set to be more than just a film; it is becoming a larger statement of national perseverance.
“It makes absolute sense to release Border 2 first—it will obviously carry more emotional and political resonance with audiences and allows Lahore 1947 to play a more introspective role when things cool off,” a trade analyst pointed out.
