Superstar Sunny Deol has stormed back into the box office market with successes in Gadar 2 and Jaat, and now he is ready to charge into the OTT space as well. According to confirmed industry chatter, it appears that Deol is in advanced talks with Netflix India for a high-budget action thriller, and that he is finally entering the digital streaming world is seriously happening.
The project will be produced by Suparn Varma, who created The Family Man 2, Rana Naidu, and Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai. While the Netflix project doesn’t have a director signed on yet, the buzz is that a big-name director who recently completed a blockbuster period drama for Netflix is being pursued to take the director’s chair.
Touted as a gritty, high-octane action thriller, the show will see Deol in his signature action-hero mode but with a fresh, digital-era spin. As of now, the film is in the writing phase, and pre-production will be scheduled when Deol has cleared his schedule to work on the film and the script is locked. A source associated with the project confirmed, “Sunny paaji is excited to get into the OTT space, and this action thriller fits well with the cinema he has made his brand. They’re finalising the paperwork now.”
This project also dovetails nicely into Deol’s broader comeback strategy. Following the Netflix endeavour, Deol fans can expect to see him in Romero (the first full-length film on the 1947 partition), Lahore 1947 (by Rajkumar Santoshi) and Border 2, which is the 2026 Republic Day release. He also returns as Lord Hanuman in Nitesh Tiwari’s much-discussed Ramayana. His other 3 films, Soorya and Baap, are on hold primarily due to production issues, and another family drama, Safar, is being marketed to OTT services for release.
