Legal Dispute Finally Resolved
After months of a bitter legal dispute between Maddock Films and giant exhibition chain PVRInox, Bollywood’s genre-bending comedy Bhool Chuk Maaf (2025) is finally coming to cinemas on May 23, 2025. Starring Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi and directed by Karan Sharma, the film was set to release in theatres on May 9, 2025, when producer Dinesh Vijan announced a direct-to-OTT release the day before, causing furious backlash. The reasoning behind this decision was the deteriorating national security concerns in India over the India-Pakistan conflict and led to PVRInox pursuing injunctive relief of ₹60 crore by filing with the Bombay High Court, claiming that the totality of the circumstances was an egregious breach of contract that left exhibitors in an economic quandary.
Bombay High Court Offers Win-Win
However, in an exclusive report, the Bombay High Court has ruled with efficacy, and the case has a win-win resolution. Bhool Chuk Maaf will now release in cinemas across India on May 23, 2025, and Maddock Films will recommence its marketing campaign on May 15. In an unprecedented provision, the Bombay High Court permitted a diminished digital window for the film, allowing it to release on Amazon Prime Video on June 6, 2025 — two weeks after the theatrical release.
Shorter OTT Window Granted – But Not a Precedent
“This is a rare occasion where the court has allowed a shorter OTT window for a Hindi film,” said a source close to the development. “However, this won’t set a precedent. The eight-week holdback period remains the norm for all future releases unless specifically ordered otherwise.”
₹60 Crore Claim Dropped
In a huge de-escalation, PVRInox can drop the ₹60 crore claim, and both sides are happy to respect the court’s ruling without further dispute. A joint official announcement from Maddock Films and PVRInox should follow shortly.

The legal process puts the focus back on Bhool Chuk Maaf — a high-concept romantic comedy with a time-loop plot set in the heart of Varanasi.
