Sunny Deol is moving through sets, cities and genres with the kind of speed that turns a busy schedule into a full-blown star phase. Just weeks after stepping onto the floors of Excel Entertainment’s untitled action drama in Mumbai, the actor is closing its first schedule and lining up his next major stop, Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana, where he begins work in early April.
Backed by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani, the untitled film has been mounted as a large-scale commercial action drama with Deol in the role of a cop. Directed by Balaji Ganesh, it also stars Jyotika and Vijay Varma. The first leg, which began in the first week of March, is set to wrap on March 30 after an extensive Mumbai shoot planned across several key locations.
Mumbai Shoot Ends With A High-Energy First Leg
The film opened its shoot with an action sequence featuring Deol and Vijay Varma on a specially designed carnival set at Film City. From there, the production moved across Bandra, Churchgate and Andheri East, filming at a bungalow, a college campus and Marol Police Camp. The city schedule has given the project a wide visual canvas, while Deol’s moustache-and-beard look adds another layer to his screen presence as a uniformed officer.
The production’s next leg is lined up for Goa in May, with the makers aiming to complete principal photography by July. For now, the Mumbai stretch has served as the film’s foundation, introducing both the scale and the texture of a project designed as a mainstream action entertainer.
From Cop Drama To Mythic Spectacle
As the Mumbai schedule winds down, the shift to Ramayana gives Deol’s current run a bigger sense of scale. He is not simply moving from one set to another, he is stepping from a grounded action world into one of the industry’s most ambitious mythological productions, a transition that reflects just how expansive his current line-up has become.
In Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana, Deol is confirmed to play Hanuman, one of the film’s most closely watched casting choices. The epic stars Ranbir Kapoor as Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana and Ravie Dubey as Lakshman. Deol begins filming his portion in April before returning to the Excel production in May, placing him at the centre of two major films with sharply different tonal worlds.

That balancing act also fits neatly into the momentum of Deol’s second innings, which has steadily grown stronger over the past few years. Gadar 2, released in 2023, became a blockbuster and firmly re-established his theatrical pull. He carried that momentum into Jaat in 2025, staying rooted in the mass-action zone that has long defined his big-screen image.
His slate has since widened without losing that larger-than-life appeal. Border 2 released in January 2026, bringing him back into a war drama mounted with scale and ensemble star power alongside Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty, under Anurag Singh’s direction. He also has Ikka, a Netflix courtroom drama with Akshaye Khanna, signalling an OTT turn within an otherwise strongly theatrical phase. With the Excel action drama and Ramayana now moving in quick succession, Deol’s second innings is not slowing down. It is gathering force.
