Superboys of Malegaon is based on the real-life story of Nasir Shaikh, an amateur filmmaker from Malegaon. In this town, Bollywood movies offer an escape from daily struggles. Nasir dreams of making a film for the people, by the people. He assembles a quirky team of friends to make his vision come true.
The film has already gained international attention. It premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and was shown at the 68th BFI London Film Festival and the Red Sea International Film Festival, earning praise for its emotional storytelling.
Reema Kagti On Her Vision
Director Reema Kagti recently shared her thoughts on the film, calling it a fresh take on Indian cinema. She hopes Superboys of Malegaon will connect with audiences worldwide, especially the Indian diaspora in Canada. Co-written by Kagti and Varun Grover, the film combines humour, adventure, and emotional moments, celebrating creativity and friendship.
“The film is about resilience, dreams, and the sheer love for cinema,” Kagti said. “It’s an ode to those who create against all odds.”
