Supreme Court Rejects Plea To Revoke The Certification Of Adipurush

Adipurush was one of the most highly awaited films of this year. The fact that it was a modern adaptation of the mythological Hindu epic Ramayana, had got everyone excited. But then the teaser was released last year and it was poorly received. Due to the backlash, the release date of the film was pushed and it was released this year. Upon release, the Prabhas-starrer film was widely criticized for its tacky visual effects, horrible dialogues, bad acting, and an overall weak script.

On Friday, the Supreme Court rejected a plea seeking revocation of the U certificate given to the film by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The film was given the universal certificate and it was passed with no cuts. In the court, the bench of Justices SK Kaul and MM Sundresh stated that they can’t interfere with the censor board’s decision to certify a film.

Judges Statement

Justice Kaul said, “Everyone is touchy about everything now…tolerance for movies, books is going down.” They had earlier ordered the makers to appear in court on 27 July. They also put a stay on the proceedings before the Allahabad high court where the petition over the film’s wrongful depiction is going on. Ever since Adipurush was released, the censor board has also been called out for passing the film with no cuts.

The Horrible Fate of Adipurush

Despite the crazy marketing and star presence, Adipurush failed to impress anyone. People were particularly angry with the tacky dialogue said by Lord Hanuman and several inaccuracies in the film. Earlier this month, the film’s dialogue writer Manoj Muntashir issued an apology for hurting sentiments. “I accept people’s emotions have been hurt by Adipurush. With folded hands, I extend my unconditional apologies. May Prabhu Bajrang Bali keep us united and grant us strength to serve our sacred Sanatan and our great nation.”

Earlier, Manoj had claimed that Hanuman was not a god but a mere servant and we had made him a god. However, this comment quickly backfired as people got angry. Despite a good opening collection, the film failed miserably at the box office due to poor word of mouth.
