Several highly anticipated projects have been shelved due to the unpredictable box office and the failure of major films. Among these could be Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Karna, a grand mythological epic. The film was set to star superstar Suriya in the title role and Janhvi Kapoor as Draupadi.
According to sources, the film has been officially shelved, leaving fans and industry insiders disappointed.
Suriya & Janhvi Kapoor’s Mythological Film Karna Shelved?
The cast of Karna was already locked, with talented actors like Ali Fazal, Vijay Verma, and Avinash Tiwari on board. This ambitious pan-India project was to be produced by Excel Entertainment, with a staggering budget of Rs. 350 crore. Out of this, Rs. 15 crore had already been spent on pre-production and look tests.
A source revealed to Bollywood Hungama, “Though many are told that the film is being pushed, the HODs of various departments have been informed that the film is cancelled, which is very sad for many of us who were looking forward to working on this big project.”
Karna Was Excel Entertainment’s Ambitious Project
Karna was a dream project for Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, the acclaimed director of Rang De Basanti, and for Excel Entertainment. The actors were also excited about this mythological film, which promised to be heavy on special effects and world-class post-production.
The film was slated for release in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and other languages, aiming for a broad and diverse audience.
