Tahira Kashyap turns director with Sharmaji Ki Beti, to star Sakshi Tanwar, Divya Dutta and Saiyami Kher

Applause Entertainment and Ellipsis Entertainment have partnered to announce Tahira Kashyap Khurrana’s feature directorial debut, Sharmaji Ki Beti, a warm and authentic look into the lives of metropolitan women with the surname Sharma. Sakshi Tanwar, Divya Dutta, Saiyami Kher to star in this relatable, multi-generational ensemble comedy-drama portraying the current, middle-class female experience. While the film is set in India, it is also set to appeal to Gen Z, Millennials, and Boomers around the world, as represented by the different Sharmas in the film.

Sharmaji Ki Beti is a slice-of-life rollercoaster of aspirations, fantasies, families, inadequacies, coming of age, and heartbreak that will appeal to people from all walks of life, as it is a story about mothers, daughters, partners, friends, and ultimately, womanhood – the perfect antidote to popular cinema’s default male gaze.

Tahira’s feature debut is generating a lot of attention, both inside the industry and among audiences, after her immense success as a screenwriter and director of countless short films.
