It was announced a few days earlier that Ponmangal Vandhaal will be a direct Amazon Prime release and not a theatrical release. The movie is directed by JJ Frederick and produced by Suriya’s 2D Entertainment.
The movie, thus, is expected to be live on Prime in the first week of May. But the theatre owners association of Tamil Nadu have strongly apposed this decision. The association’s general secretary Panneerselvam has released a new video on the decision to not release Suriya movies in theatres.
Panneerselvam clearly said that movies made for theatres must not release in any other platforms and must first hit theatres. And condemned Suriya’s 2D entertainment for releasing Ponmagal Vandhaal directly on Amazon prime.
He furthur added that the producer hasn’t responded to their demand on not releasing in OTT platform. Hence future movies from 2D Entertainment as well as movies involving Suriya will not be screened in theatres.
This announcement which states that theatre owners have decided to boycott all movies involving Suriya means that the release of movies like Soorarai Pottru and Dream warrior pictures are definitely going to face some trouble.
