The Tamil version of Kangana Ranaut’s ‘Thalaivi’ has received an uncut ‘U’ certificate. The makers are also planning to submit for certification for the Hindi and Telugu versions in the near future.

Kangana plays the lead in the film Thalaivi, which is based on the life of actor-politician Jayalalitha. The Hindi title of the film was originally planned to be ‘Jaya,’ but it was later changed to ‘Thalaivi.’ The film was launched on February 24, 2019, Jayalalithaa’s birthday, and was shot in a year. It was originally scheduled to be released on April 23, 2021, but that date was pushed back.
