Vijay’s political roadshow in Thanjavur this week had all the punch of an election-season rally, but it also turned into an unexpectedly candid moment for fans waiting on his next film. As chatter around the delayed release of Jana Nayagan refuses to die down, the actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief chose to address the issue in public, and even used the moment to acknowledge support from an unlikely corner.
At the gathering, Vijay urged people to back him in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections while taking on the ruling DMK and Chief Minister M K Stalin. Yet, amid the political messaging, Vijay paused to speak about the noise around Jana Nayagan and offered a pointed, personal thank you to Stalin for speaking up for the film during the release controversy.
Vijay’s Statement At The Thanjavur Rally
Speaking to supporters, Vijay said, “Listen to what I say, the next government will be a TVK government. Fishermen, remain hopeful; your protection will be fully ensured. During the release of the film Jana Nayagan, many people raised their voices in support. Even our Chief Minister voiced his support. I thank them for that. Chief Minister, you may try to silence me, but you cannot silence every Vijay in every household. They have already begun their campaign.”
He also criticised the DMK’s framing of the election narrative, saying party members were projecting it as “Team Delhi vs Team Tamil Nadu,” and insisted that “Tamil Nadu is TVK, and TVK is Tamil Nadu,” adding that his side would win.
Jana Nayagan Delay And The April 30 Update
The most concrete update on Jana Nayagan’s release timeline has come from Canadian distributor York Cinemas, not the film’s makers. In a public note to patrons, York Cinemas stated that the movie “will not be releasing before April 30,” and asked customers with pending tickets to contact theatres for refunds. The distributor also said its membership holders would get priority booking access once a new date is confirmed.
The statement effectively rules out an April release window, even as audiences await an official revised date from the production team.
Vijay’s Recent And Upcoming Work
Jana Nayagan, directed by H Vinoth and produced by KVN Productions, is positioned as Vijay’s final acting assignment before he turns fully to politics. The film features an ensemble cast that includes Pooja Hegde and Bobby Deol, along with Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Priyamani and Narain. Music is composed by Anirudh Ravichander.
Before Jana Nayagan, Vijay’s recent theatrical run included Beast (2022), Varisu (2023), Leo (2023), and The Greatest of All Time (2024). With Jana Nayagan still awaiting a fresh release date confirmation, it remains his key upcoming theatrical title on the slate.
