When Aditya Dhar announced the film The Immortal Ashwatthama with Vicky Kaushal as the lead actor in 2020, it immediately generated excitement among audiences. However, to everyone’s disappointment, the ambitious sci-fi spectacle has not started production yet. Recent reports suggest that Vicky Kaushal is no longer part of the project, and the filmmakers are now interested in casting Telugu star Allu Arjun in the titular role. Despite facing various obstacles, the director remains determined to bring his passion project to life. Saini S Johray, the production designer, reveals that pre-production activities for The Immortal Ashwatthama have been underway for the past five months, with a team of 35 designers working diligently.
The group, consisting of production designers and art directors, embarked on the task of building the universe depicted in the film. This endeavor is far from simple due to the unique nature of Aditya Dhar’s narrative, which blends elements of mythology and science fiction in the retelling of Ashwatthama’s story from the Mahabharata. Achieving visual harmony is crucial in a project like this, requiring careful attention to details such as hair, makeup, costumes, special effects, and artistic elements to ensure seamless integration of all aspects.
