Tiku Weds Sheru, a movie starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Avneet Kaur, made its debut on Amazon Prime on June 23. The film, produced by Kangana Ranaut, unveiled its trailer at a lavish event in Mumbai on June 14. While the trailer launch was attended by Nawazuddin, Avneet, Kangana, and Aparna Purohit from Amazon Prime Video, it caught the attention that director Sai Kabir was noticeably absent. This absence raised eyebrows, particularly because Kangana has previously had conflicts with her directors such as Hansal Mehta during the making of Simran in 2017 and Krish during Manikarnika in 2019. In fact, in the case of Manikarnika, Krish had to step down and share the director’s credit with Kangana.
Contrary to previous instances involving Kangana Ranaut and her directors, there is no feud between Kangana and Sai Kabir regarding the film Tiku Weds Sheru. According to a source, Sai Kabir was absent from the trailer launch event because he is currently undergoing rehabilitation for substance abuse issues. Just days before the event, he was admitted to a rehab facility in Mumbai, and it is anticipated that he will be released next month. The source also revealed that this is not the first time Sai has sought rehab treatment, as he has undergone rehabilitation on multiple occasions in the past. One instance was when he checked into rehab following a case filed against him regarding the alleged abetment of suicide by his domestic worker. As a result of his current situation, Sai Kabir was unable to attend the event and provide any interviews.
The 2018 Suicide Case
On January 31, 2018, a tragic incident occurred involving Sai Kabir’s servant named Raju, who fell to his death in Sai’s seventh-floor apartment in Yari Road, Mumbai. Prior to this incident, Sai had already spent time in rehab at Masina Hospital. Following the death of his servant, Sai was once again admitted to the same hospital. Shortly after his release a few weeks later, he was arrested and charged with Section 306, which pertains to abetment of suicide. Sai Kabir was ultimately released in April 2018. According to the source, the case is still ongoing, and in addition to that, Sai Kabir is facing an allegation of molestation, which is also currently under legal consideration.
It is worth noting that prior to working on Tiku Weds Sheru, Sai Kabir had directed the film Revolver Rani (2014), which featured Kangana Ranaut in the lead role.
