The Trailer for The Raja Saab, the highly anticipated horror-comedy starring pan-India superstar Prabhas, has been unveiled. Directed by Maruthi, the film promised a unique blend of horror and fun, but the first trailer is, unfortunately, a huge letdown.
Instead of clearing things up, the trailer is a jumbled mess that raises more questions than it answers. Packed with what seems to be dated visual effects and a confusing storyline, it does little to build excitement for its Pongal 2026 release.
A Confusing Mix Of Everything
The biggest problem with The Raja Saab trailer is that it doesn’t seem to know what kind of film it wants to be. In its near three-minute runtime, it jumps between multiple genres without any smooth connection. One moment, we see Prabhas in a grand, spooky mansion, hinting at a serious horror story. The next, he’s in a romantic scene with one of the actresses. Then, he’s celebrating Christmas, and a few seconds later, he’s in a full-blown action sequence.
The trailer tries to show Prabhas in multiple avatars: The Hero, The Lover, The Charmer, and a dark, menacing “Raja Saab” who is an “Exorcist, Psychiatrist, Hypnotist.” But instead of making him look versatile, it just makes the character and the plot feel incredibly confusing and all over the place.
Visual Effects That Don’t Impress
For a film that is being marketed as “The Biggest Horror Fantasy Ever in Indian Cinema,” the visual effects shown in the trailer are shockingly average. The so-called supernatural elements, like shadowy figures and a monstrous tongue creature emerging from a tunnel, look like something out of a film from ten years ago.
In an era where audiences are used to world-class VFX, especially in big-budget fantasy films, the visuals here simply don’t make the cut. The grand sets and explosive sequences fail to create an impact because the underlying special effects look unconvincing and, at times, almost cartoonish. This is a major concern for a film that seems to rely so heavily on its visual spectacle.
Big Claims, Little Impact
The trailer’s bold claim of being the “biggest ever” horror fantasy feels completely hollow after watching the promo. There is nothing in the trailer that looks new or groundbreaking. The story seems like a generic mix of horror, action, and romance that we have seen many times before.
Despite the loud, dramatic music by Thaman S and the attempt to create a mysterious vibe, the overall trailer fails to leave a strong impression. It comes across as a loud, confusing, and visually unimpressive promo that struggles to justify its grand claims. Fans who were waiting for something special from Prabhas are likely to be left disappointed.
