Vikrant Massey‘s eagerly awaited film, The Sabarmati Report, originally scheduled for an August 2024 release, has encountered a setback following the departure of director Ranjan Chandel from the project.
Initial reports hinted at potential reshoots under the direction of Tushar Hiranandani, who is set to rework certain segments of Chandel’s original vision. Now the original director has opened up about the issue and revealed that he stepped down due to creative differences.

In a recent interview with Hindustan Times, Chandel shed light on his decision to part ways with the film despite completing principal photography. “The makers wanted to incorporate certain elements that didn’t align with my creative vision, so I decided to step back,” Chandel explained. He emphasised the delicate subject matter of the film as a critical factor in his departure, highlighting the importance of maintaining integrity in storytelling.
Director Says CBFC Has No Role In Film’s Delay
Addressing speculations surrounding the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC)’s role in the delay, Chandel categorically dismissed any such influence. “Contrary to rumours, the CBFC did not request changes that led to the delay,” he clarified.
As of now, the release date of The Sabarmati Report remains uncertain, with producers aiming for a new theatrical window in September or October 2024. Earlier reports had suggested minor reshoots to enhance certain scenes, a decision that received backing from the cast and crew.
The Sabarmati Report To Delay As Tushar Hiranandani Reshoots Some Key Sequences
In an earlier update this month, sources close to the production shared insights on the reshoots, affirming that the adjustments were intended to strengthen specific narrative elements. “The decision to involve Tushar Hiranandani for the reshoots was driven by a desire to refine the film’s impact,” the source revealed. Despite these developments, The Sabarmati Report is set to miss its previously scheduled May 3 release date.
