T-Series Films and Almighty Motion Picture are doubling down on legacy storytelling, and this time the canvas is far bigger. After the strong response to Made in India: A Titan Story, the two banners have now announced The Tatas, a premium multi-season drama series that aims to trace the extraordinary rise of the Tata family and its deep connection with the making of modern India.
Adapted from Girish Kuber’s award-winning book The Tatas: How a Family Built a Business and a Nation, the series is being envisioned as a sweeping multi-generational saga. The makers say the show will move beyond the familiar language of boardroom drama and instead explore the family as institution builders, industrial pioneers and social visionaries whose imprint stretches across steel, hospitality, science, aviation, automobiles and technology.
A Four-Generation Epic Takes Shape With Karan Vyas Steering The Adaptation
The newly announced series is currently in active script development, with screenwriter Karan Vyas attached to adapt the book for the screen. Vyas also wrote Made in India: A Titan Story, the recent T-Series Films and Almighty Motion Picture collaboration that centered on Titan’s origin story. Director and casting announcements for The Tatas are expected later this year.
The show is designed to unfold across four eras of the Tata lineage, beginning with founder Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata, moving through Sir Dorabji Tata, Sir Ratan Tata and Lady Meharbai Tata, then J.R.D. Tata, and finally Ratan Naval Tata. The ambition is clear from the structure itself, with each chapter tied to defining moments in India’s industrial and social evolution while keeping the emotional lives of its central figures in focus.
Producer Bhushan Kumar, T-Series Films says, “Some families build businesses. Some build institutions. The Tata family helped build the very idea of modern India. The overwhelming love for Made In India: A Titan Story has been incredibly heartening and has reaffirmed our belief that audiences today are seeking stories that are authentic, inspiring, and rooted in India’s rich legacy. That response has encouraged us to continue bringing such extraordinary journeys to the screen. We are humbled to present ‘The Tatas’, a story that celebrates a family whose vision and values have shaped generations, and we hope audiences embrace it with the same love and affection they showered upon Made In India: A Titan Story.”
Speaking on the scale of the adaptation, writer Karan Vyas said: “The deeper I went into the archives of the Tata family, the more I realized that this isn’t merely corporate history; it’s the foundational narrative of modern India. These were individuals who constantly looked past their balance sheets to build institutions that served the collective. Teaming up with Almighty Motion Picture allows us to approach this with the scale it demands, intimate in its human relationships, yet massive in its historical scope.”
Producer Prabhleen Sandhu, Co-Founder of Almighty Motion Picture, said: “Our creative mandate has always been to champion authentic, deeply resonant Indian stories and the extraordinary people behind them. The love received for Made in India: A Titan Story strengthened our belief that authentic Indian stories can resonate with audiences everywhere. With THE TATAS, we are expanding that vision onto an even grander canvas. This is not just the story of a family or a business empire, it is the story of ideas, values and institutions that helped shape modern India. We are honoured & deeply humbled by the opportunity to bring this remarkable legacy to the screen.”
From Titan’S Origin Story To A Broader Tata Legacy
The announcement arrives after Made in India: A Titan Story drew attention in 2026 for turning a major Indian business journey into accessible, character-driven screen storytelling. Produced by T-Series Films and Almighty Motion Picture, the series was directed by Robbie Grewal and written by Karan Vyas, with Jim Sarbh and Naseeruddin Shah leading the cast. Where that project focused on the birth of an iconic brand, The Tatas now opens the frame to the family legacy behind several of India’s defining institutions.
That is what gives this new series its immediate intrigue. If Made in India: A Titan Story proved there is an audience for rooted, ambitious Indian legacy dramas, The Tatas looks poised to test just how grand that appetite can be, with over a century of vision, power, philanthropy and nation-shaping ambition at its core.
