The stage is set for one of the biggest box office clashes of the year, as Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari and Kantara: A Legend – Chapter 1 are both scheduled to release on October 2nd. However, the battle has already begun behind the scenes, with a high-stakes showdown over screen allocation in theatres across the country.
After the distributors of Kantara made an aggressive demand for 100% of shows in many cinemas, all eyes were on how Dharma Productions, the makers of the Varun Dhawan-starrer, would respond. Now, an exclusive report has revealed their counter-offer.
Kantara’s Aggressive Demands For Screens
Earlier, the distributors of the Rishab Shetty-starrer, AA Films, sent shockwaves through the industry by asking for 100% of all shows in single-screen, two-screen, and even three-screen multiplexes. This was seen as a bold attempt to completely dominate the holiday weekend and leave very few shows for the competition. In larger multiplexes, their demand for a very high number of shows would also effectively achieve the same result.
Dharma Productions Makes A ‘Fair’ Counter-Offer
In response, Dharma Productions has reportedly sent its own list of requirements to exhibitors, which the industry is calling “fair” and “realistic.” Instead of demanding a complete takeover, they have asked for a reasonable share of the pie. Their demands are:
- 50% of shows in 2-screen cinemas (all shows on 1 out of 2 screens).
- 33% of shows in 3-screen cinemas (all shows on 1 out of 3 screens).
- 25% of shows in 4-screen cinemas (all shows on 1 out of 4 screens).
An industry insider commented, “Dharma is being realistic as they are aware that Kantara: A Legend: Chapter 1 is a bigger and more expensive film than theirs. But they are also making it clear that their product is also worth it and asking for reasonable showcasing.”
What Happens Next In This High-Stakes Game?
The ball is now in the court of Kantara‘s distributors. The trade is waiting to see if they will soften their initial stance to accommodate the Dharma film. The negotiations are expected to be intense and could go on until October 1st, just a day before the films are set to release. This clash is creating a tense situation for theatre owners, who must now find a balance between the two big-ticket films.
About The October 2nd Clash
Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, a family entertainer from Dharma Productions starring Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor, is set to clash with Kantara: A Legend: Chapter 1, a highly anticipated mythological action film starring Rishab Shetty. Both films are scheduled for a grand theatrical release on the Gandhi Jayanti holiday, October 2, 2025.
