In his illustrious 43-year career, Sanjay Dutt has dabbled in various genres, from action to drama, romance, and comedy. However, one genre conspicuously missing from his filmography has been horror comedy. That gap is now set to be filled with his next co-production, The Virgin Tree.
While the project was announced in late 2022, recent updates suggest that it’s being readied for an August release.
Sanjay Dutt As A Ghostbuster In The Virgin Tree
The seasoned actor, known for his captivating antagonist roles in South Indian films, is set to don a new avatar as a ghostbuster in the movie.
Producer Deepak Mukut revealed to Mid-day, “Apart from being a horror-comedy, the film is a musical too. The genre of horror is thriving today. Sanjay plays a ghostbuster, and his character is equipped with an array of gadgets to hunt down spirits. The story revolves around a mysterious tree with supernatural forces.”
Under the direction of debutant Sidhaant Sachdev, the film stars Mouni Roy and Palak Tiwari. Mukut discloses that it was Dutt who brought the story to him.
Makers Planning A Massy Title For The Virgin Tree
“When I approached Sanju for a music video a few years back, he narrated the story to me and asked whether we could collaborate on it. We then finalised the script, cast, and director. Sidhaant was an associate of Vikram Bhatt, who is an expert in the horror genre,” he said.
While The Virgin Tree serves as the working title, the producer suggests that the team arrived at the name owing to its pun. He added, “The ‘vir’ refers to vardaan, which is a blessing in Hindi. The ‘gin’ djinn. So, it is actually The Var-djinn Tree, but we are planning to change the English title. We want something massy.”
For the unversed, Sanjay Dutt recently made headlines for leaving Welcome To The Jungle due to personal reasons. It was said that the actor wasn’t happy with the irregular planning and shoot of the film.

The Virgin Tree is a forthcoming horror-comedy featuring Sanjay Dutt, Mouni Roy, and Palak Tiwari. Directed by newcomer Sidhaant Sachdev, the film combines humour and thrills, ensuring an enjoyable experience.
The cast also includes Sunny Singh, Aasif Khan, and newcomer Beyounic. Produced by Three Dimension Motion Pictures Pvt Ltd and Soham Rockstar Entertainment, fans are eagerly anticipating its release. The shooting had already begun long back, and the release date will be announced shortly.
