A calendar shuffle has quietly turned into a high-stakes summer stare-down. Yash’s much-anticipated pan-India outing Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups has a new locked date, and the ripple effect is immediate: it now arrives just a day before Varun Dhawan’s Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, setting up a shared opening weekend that could split audience attention right down the middle.
With both films targeting very different sensibilities, the timing has suddenly made early June 2026 one of the most watchable release corridors on the Bollywood and South calendar.
The Latest Update: Toxic Confirms June 4, Varun Dhawan’s Film Holds June 5
Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups is now officially scheduled to release in theatres on June 4, 2026. The move places it in direct proximity to Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, which is slated to hit cinemas on June 5, 2026, giving the two star-driven titles the same opening weekend.
The rescheduling was attributed by the makers of Toxic to uncertainty and cinema disruptions tied to tensions in the Middle East, a key overseas market for big event releases. In an official statement shared by the production house, the team said: “After years of dedicated labour, we were excited to share our film with you all on the 19th of March. However, the current uncertainty, especially in the Middle East, has created a situation that impacts our goal to reach and connect with the widest possible audience… Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-ups will now be released in cinemas across the globe in English and Indian languages on 4th June 2026.”
As of March 4, 2026, there has been no official update indicating a change to Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’s June 5 date, which means the box office conversation is officially on.
Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups is directed by Geetu Mohandas and is positioned as a large-scale action drama with a pan-India rollout. The film stars Yash, alongside Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Tara Sutaria, Huma Qureshi and Rukmini Vasanth.
Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai is directed by David Dhawan and stars Varun Dhawan with Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde, with Mouni Roy also part of the cast. The title borrows from the popular track from Biwi No.1, signalling a mainstream commercial entertainer designed for wide, family viewing.
Yash’s Recent And Upcoming Work
Yash last appeared on the big screen in KGF: Chapter 2 (2022), the Prashanth Neel-directed blockbuster that cemented him as a true pan-India force. He is now returning to theatres with Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups, a global-facing multilingual film being mounted by KVN Productions and Monster Mind Creations, marking a significant shift into a stylised action-gangster space under Geetu Mohandas.
On the Varun Dhawan front, the actor’s recent releases include Bhediya (2022) and Jugg Jugg Jeeyo (2022), followed by his action-packed streaming series Citadel: Honey Bunny, which premiered on Prime Video on November 7, 2024. His next major theatrical arrival is Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, now dated June 5, 2026, placing him in a prime holiday-season corridor, albeit with a formidable neighbour at the box office.
