Yash‘s Toxic is now dealing with a punishing post release aftershock, with the film’s digital rights still unsold despite its massive scale and pre release buzz. What was expected to emerge as a premium OTT property has instead become a cautionary tale of how quickly market perception can change once a big theatrical bet loses momentum.
As per reports in Bollywood Hungama, reversal began at the box office. Toxic released on August 26 and opened at Rs 120 crore in India, but the initial surge did not translate into a sustained run. The film is now expected to finish below Rs 250 crore in India, a result that has sharply altered the economics around its non theatrical recovery and pushed its streaming negotiations into intense focus.
Ott Value Takes A Sharp Hit
Before release, the film was being positioned for a digital deal above Rs 200 crore, with confidence that a strong theatrical run would lift its post release value even further. At one stage, the project had attracted an offer of Rs 150 crore from a leading platform. That equation has now changed dramatically.
The current market value being discussed for Toxic‘s post theatrical streaming rights across languages has dropped to nearly Rs 30 crore, with Zee5 understood to have made the highest offer so far. For a film mounted on such an ambitious scale, that fall in valuation has become one of the clearest measures of the damage caused by its theatrical underperformance.
Makers Explore A New Digital Cut
With the existing offers falling far short of earlier expectations, the makers are now exploring a fresh edit of Toxic for its digital version in an attempt to improve the film’s OTT prospects. The strategy is aimed at creating a more platform friendly cut that could potentially unlock a better deal than the one currently on the table.
That effort matters even more because the film has very little satellite cushion. Given its adult leaning storytelling, television recovery is expected to remain minimal, leaving a revised OTT sale as the most important remaining lever in the bid to reduce losses.
Film is set to finish under 140 crore nett in Hindi and worldwide 250 gross. It’s a big loss making proposition for producers and lead actor.
Toxic Cast, Director And The Stakes For Yash
The scale of the setback stands out because Toxic arrived as Yash’s first release after K.G.F: Chapter 2, the 2022 blockbuster that cemented his pan India box office pull. Directed by Geetu Mohandas, Toxic features Yash alongside Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria and Rukmini Vasanth. The gangster drama is backed by KVN Productions and Monster Mind Creations.
That context is what makes the film’s OTT fallout especially striking. Instead of extending Yash’s blockbuster run, Toxic has turned into a rare commercial stumble at a crucial moment in his career. His next confirmed theatrical release is Ramayana: Part 1, scheduled to arrive on November 6, 2026, placing even more attention on how quickly he rebounds from Toxic‘s difficult run.
