Janhvi Kapoor‘s latest film Ulajh has hit the screens with mixed reviews and a lukewarm reception. Critics have been less than kind, describing the film’s plot as loosely structured and failing to resonate deeply with audiences.

Ulajh Shows Slight Growth On Day 2
On its opening day, Friday, Ulajh struggled at the box office, earning only Rs 1.37 crore. This disappointing start marks the lowest opening for a lead role film starring Kapoor in quite some time. For context, her previous film, Mr and Mrs Maahi, which also featured Rajkummar Rao, had a stronger debut with Rs 6.75 crore, despite receiving mixed reviews.
However, there was a slight improvement on Day 2, Saturday, with Ulajh collecting around Rs 2.22 crore. This brings the film’s total earnings over its first two days to Rs 3.59 crore nett.

The film has also managed to attract some regional attention. In cities like Bengaluru and Chennai, where Roshan Matthew’s popularity is significant, Ulajh has shown better occupancy rates. Chennai’s occupancy stands at 47.67 per cent, while Bengaluru follows with 33.50 per cent. In contrast, Pune and Mumbai have shown less enthusiasm. Late-night shows are performing better compared to earlier screenings.
Despite the modest rise in collections, the jump is considered minimal. Typically, films experiencing a slow start on Friday see a larger increase on Saturday. A more substantial rise, combined with a strong performance on Sunday, could have improved the film’s prospects.
Ulajh is also contending with stiff competition from Deadpool and Wolverine, Marvel’s 34th film, which has received exceptional reviews and is expected to continue performing well. Additionally, the buzz around Kalki 2898 AD remains strong, further intensifying the competition at the box office.
