Varun Dhawan and Dinesh Vijan Dive Into Mythological Horror Comedy — Outside the Bhediya Universe
Varun Dhawan and Dinesh Vijan appear to be up to something thrilling outside the familiar realm of Maddock Films’ horror-comedy universe. Although it was previously confirmed that the duo would reunite for the sequel to Bhediya, they have decided to venture into a different animal altogether — a standalone mythological horror comedy that could go before the much-anticipated sequel.
Not A Sequel, Not In The Universe — A Whole New Animal
Sources close to the project say that the proposed Varun-Dino film is not in Maddock’s recurring horror-comedy universe (Stree, Bhediya, Munjya, Thama); in fact, it is intended to stand completely apart.
“It will be a totally unique mytho-horror film that mixes scares and laughs, but is culturally rooted,” said the source.
“While Bhediya 2 is confirmed, the dates shifted so maybe this idea could go first.”
Interestingly, the duo is also considering two other scripts, although the mytho-horror entry is certainly in front.
A Reunion Brewing Since Badlapur Days
This will not be the first time Varun and Dinesh Vijan are coming together; their previous work includes Badlapur and the genre-defining Bhediya. Varun also made a cameo appearance as Bhediya in Munjya before he will be seen this Diwali joining Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui.
With Maddock Films quickly emerging as the base camp for genre-blurring Hindi cinema, this new mytho twist may push the boundaries even further.
Varun’s Plate is Full — But Rhythms are Shifting
Varun Dhawan is currently in the process of delivering multiple projects. He’s shooting David Dhawan’s Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai right now and will likely finish up Anurag Singh‘s Border 2 co-starring Sunny Deol, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty, soon.
He also has Anees Bazmee’s No Entry 2, although that universe is getting an anthology reshuffle after Diljit’s reported exit.
With so much moving around, Varun’s mytho-horror film could wind up being the not-so-secret addition to Varun’s 2026 slate because the team is excitedly searching for a female lead to lock down by mid-year.
