Varun Dhawan walked straight into the roast zone on India’s Got Latent and did not flinch. In a new episode packed with cheeky digs, the actor was ribbed over Border 2, mocked for his old Dilwale and Inception comparison, and hit with a classic nepotism crack. Instead of dodging the punches, Varun played along and even used the moment to clear the air on one of his most trolled remarks.
Samay Raina’s Border 2 Jab Lands, And Varun Pushes Back
One of the sharpest moments came during a game when a contestant asked the judges to pick from numbers one to five. Varun picked one and said, “I like 1.” That opened the door for Samay Raina, who shot back, “Why did you spoil Border 2 then?” Varun pushed back instantly, refusing to let the gag have the last word.
Samay did not stop there. He also nudged Varun to name his last film, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, before twisting the title into a nepotism punchline: “Hai papa director toh actor toh hona hi hai.” In another moment, Samay joked about the scale of guests on his show and said, “I have got such big stars after the FIR, Alia Bhatt and now Varun Dhawan, the show keeps going down.” Varun took every jab in stride, matching the episode’s irreverent mood from start to finish.
That comfort with comedy also came through in his statement about joining the episode. He said, “Comedy is a genre I love performing and enjoy watching as well. Samay’s brand of comedy is so unpredictable that I wanted to experience it live. I had a great time and hopefully everyone on Netflix enjoys this special as much as I did.”
Varun Finally Explains His Dilwale And Inception Comment
The episode also revived a line that has followed Varun for years. When Sharon Verma told him, “I’m also a big fan of you. My favourite performance was when you said ‘Dilwale is like Inception’,” the actor laughed and finally offered his side of the story.
Varun said, “That was actually a joke; I was being sarcastic, and nobody got it. So maybe it was a bad joke.” When Sharon pointed out that everybody understood it, he doubled down with, “I don’t think anybody got it. They thought I was serious, but I obviously wasn’t serious because even I didn’t get the trailer.”
The comment traces back to a 2015 Dilwale press interaction, giving the episode one of its funniest callbacks and Varun one more chance to own the moment with a grin.
Varun Dhawan’s Recent And Upcoming Work
That ease with being roasted says a lot about where Varun is right now. He is in a phase of his career where he is balancing theatrical releases, streaming visibility and familiar star-driven commercial space, which makes a loose, self-aware appearance like this feel completely in sync with his current image.
His recent slate includes the 2024 action drama Baby John and the streaming series Citadel: Honey Bunny. This year, he has also been seen in Border 2 and Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, extending a run that has kept him firmly in the mainstream conversation. Looking ahead, he is also attached to an untitled Yash Raj Films horror project directed by Abhay Pannu, a move that adds another genre turn to an already packed stretch.
