Varun Dhawan‘s much-awaited action thriller, Baby John, is set to release tomorrow on Christmas Day. However, the film is facing disappointing advance ticket sales.
Despite the holiday release and a star-studded cast, the movie has struggled to attract audiences in its pre-sale phase. As of now, Baby John has sold just 31,500 tickets, falling short of expectations for a film releasing on a national holiday.
The movie also features Keerthy Suresh, making her Hindi film debut, along with Wamiqa Gabbi and Jackie Shroff. Produced by Atlee, Baby John started its pre-sales three days before the official release. Unfortunately, the numbers so far have been underwhelming.
Baby John Sells Only 31500 Tickets In Pre-Sales Ahead Of Release Tomorrow
The film’s pre-sale data comes from major national chains like PVRInox and Cinepolis. As of noon, the film had sold 26,000 tickets at PVRInox and 5,500 at Cinepolis. By Tuesday night, it is expected to end pre-sales with between 55,000 and 65,000 tickets sold. Advance bookings will end with 11 hours to go for release.
However, these numbers are still lower than those of other films, such as Crew (65,000), Laal Singh Chaddha (63,000), Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan (58,000), and Bad Newz (51,000), which had stronger advance bookings.
| Film Name | Advance Bookings (Tickets) |
|---|---|
| Crew | 65,000 |
| Laal Singh Chaddha | 63,000 |
| Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan | 58,000 |
| Bad Newz | 51,000 |
| Baby John | 31,500 |
Will It Achieve An Expected Rs 12-15 Cr Opening?
Baby John is expected to open with earnings between Rs 12 crore and Rs 15 crore. However, given the competition from films like Pushpa 2, achieving this target could be difficult.
Although the early ticket sales are disappointing, the film could still see a boost on its opening day. Many moviegoers may decide to buy tickets last minute, especially with Christmas being a national holiday. Walk-in bookings could help increase the numbers, and much will depend on word-of-mouth after the first shows.
One major draw for Baby John is a cameo by Salman Khan, which has generated excitement among fans. His appearance, hinted at in the trailer with his face covered, has sparked curiosity. Additionally, Salman’s voice wishing fans a “Merry Christmas” at the end of the trailer has only heightened anticipation.
Directed by Atlee, Baby John stars Varun Dhawan as a tough cop, DCP Satya Verma. The film is a Hindi remake of Atlee’s 2016 Tamil film, Theri. Atlee’s recent success with Jawan has raised hopes for Baby John, but with the early signs not so promising, it remains to be seen how the film will perform at the box office.
