John Abraham is a seasoned actor with over 25 years in the industry, recently shared his ongoing struggle to convince producers of his value.
On Ranveer Allahbadia’s podcast, the 51-year-old actor revealed that despite his successful track record with films like Vicky Donor, Madras Cafe, and Batla House, he still faces scepticism from studio heads.
John Abraham Says Producers Still Don’t Have 100% Faith In Him Despite Past Successes
Abraham admitted, “Till today I have to convince studio heads that this is a different film and please fund my process. Till today they don’t have 100 percent faith and they tell me that the budget is too much.” Despite his extensive experience, John said he often has to justify his projects and their costs.
John also talked about his communication challenges, noting that he doesn’t use WhatsApp and often receives delayed responses to his SMS. He shared a particularly frustrating experience where a studio head promised to follow up after 4.5 months but has yet to respond. “I don’t feel bad but I deserve one reply. I believe that if people believe me a little, I would want to try and change Indian cinema a little,” he added.
Vedaa Actor On Trend Of Actors’ High Fees
To set himself apart, Abraham also distanced himself from the trend of actors demanding fees that exceed a film’s budget. He proudly stated that his fees are fair and don’t burden any film’s finances.
The actor explained, “Toh meri jo aukaat hai, jo mera standard hai, I make films according to that. I am very proud of my content.” John follows a profit-based pay model where he earns based on the movie’s earnings rather than a fixed upfront fee.
John Abraham On His Future Projects
John also discussed his forthcoming projects, Tehran and Diplomat. He expressed a desire to create entertaining films with a focus on geopolitics. “I want to package them in an interesting way and show it to the audience,” John shared.
On the work front, Abraham is gearing up for the release of his upcoming film Vedaa, which stars Sharvari, Abhishek Banerjee, and Tamannaah Bhatia. Directed by Nikkhil Advani, the film is set to hit theatres on August 15.
