John Abraham’s latest film, Vedaa, hit theatres on Independence Day, competing in a crowded market. The action drama, also featuring Sharvari Wagh and Tamannaah Bhatia, faced stiff competition from the horror-comedy Stree 2 and Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein.
Vedaa Starts Slow At The Box Office, Set To Grow Over The Weekend
On its opening day, Vedaa managed to pull in Rs 6.75 crore nett in India. While this figure falls significantly behind the record-breaking Stree 2, it gives Vedaa a lead over Khel Khel Mein. The film’s performance places it in the second spot behind Stree 2 among the new releases.
The film saw an overall Hindi occupancy of 35.63 percent. In Mumbai, where it had 415 shows, the occupancy was 37 percent. In Delhi and NCR, with 475 shows, the occupancy was slightly higher at 41.50 percent.
John Abraham’s Best Opening In Past 6 Years
This debut is John Abraham’s most notable opening in six years, following his 2018 hit Satyamev Jayate, which earned around Rs 19 crore on its first day.
Despite this, his biggest opening remains with Siddharth Anand’s spy thriller Pathaan (2023), featuring Shah Rukh Khan. In recent years, John’s films like Ek Villain Returns, Attack, Satyamev Jayate 2, and Mumbai Saga have struggled to achieve strong openings, often landing in the single-digit crores.
With the long weekend extending through Raksha Bandhan, all eyes are on how Vedaa performs over the coming days. The film’s potential to gain traction and boost its numbers remains the key focus as it heads into its first weekend.
