Randeep Hooda has proven his mantle as a serious actor. Starting with Ram Gopal Varma’s D, he has since given several critically acclaimed performances in Bollywood. One of the most talked about films of his has to be the biopic based on the life of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, also known as Veer Savarkar. But there is not so good news for people waiting for this film.
Titled Swantantrya Veer Savarkar, the film has been surrounded by controversies ever since its announcement. Randeep, who is playing the lead role as well as directing this film, is having issues with the film’s producers Anand Pandit of Anand Pandit Motion Pictures and Sandeep Singh of Legend Studio. According to media reports, Randeep put out a notice on a trade website claiming his company Randeep Hooda Films to be the sole owner of all the intellectual property rights of the biopic. He has also sent a legal notice to Anand and Sandeep.
The Legal Tussle
Hooda had sent four notices to both the producers, in November and December 2022, then on June 7, and June 26, this year. The producers have claimed that Randeep took possession of the film’s footage from them without permission and is refusing to return it. The problem started after Randeep went over budget and exceeded the limit of 20 crores given to him by Ashok and Sandeep.
Randeep’s Legal Team Reacts
Karan Halai of M/s Halai and Co and the legal brain behind Randeep Hooda, opened up about this issue to Bollywood Hungama. He said, “Randeep Hooda under his banner Randeep Hooda Films has successfully written, produced, directed and completed the film based on Veer Savarkar despite all odds by facing various challenges coming his way including financial, mental and physical. He, with his utmost dedication (and) perseverance and aim of paying respect to the real hero i.e. the main character of the film, has thwarted obstructions created by other entities bent upon disrupting the making of the film, also attempting to infringe on his legal rights.” However, the legal team of the producers claim that they own the IP rights of the film.
