The film collected approximately Rs. 66 crore worldwide in its first four days, a figure that falls drastically short of expectations. With a domestic total of Rs. 47 crore and an overseas collection of Rs. 19 crore (USD $2.20 million), the film’s financial trajectory points to significant losses for its investors.
A Weekend Of Negative Trends
Kingdom kicked off its run on Thursday with a respectable Rs. 18.25 crore. However, the cracks began to show almost immediately. The film saw a steep drop on its first Friday, collecting only Rs. 9.50 crore. Alarmingly, there was no significant growth on Saturday, with collections remaining flat at Rs. 10.00 crore. The final nail in the coffin was Sunday, where the film saw a further drop to Rs. 9.25 crore.
For a big-budget film, the lack of an upward trend over the weekend is a critical sign of audience rejection. Typically, films are expected to grow on Saturday and Sunday, but Kingdom‘s declining numbers indicate poor word-of-mouth. With a likely sharp fall on Monday, its theatrical run is expected to be cut short, with most cinemas phasing it out by the end of its first week.
A Continuing Dry Spell for Deverakonda
This box office failure unfortunately extends a long and challenging phase for Vijay Deverakonda, who has been struggling to deliver a clean hit for several years. His last undisputed box office success was the 2018 horror-comedy Taxiwaala. This means the actor has gone nearly seven years without a major hit film, a tough reality for a star of his stature.
The string of underperforming films has put immense pressure on his recent projects, and Kingdom‘s failure adds to a list of films that haven’t managed to connect with the audience on a large scale. Fans are eagerly awaiting a powerful comeback that can reignite his once-unassailable box office pull.
