Filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj, who recently made his Netflix debut with the spy thriller Khufiya, has expressed his admiration for Shah Rukh Khan and his latest blockbuster Jawan. The director said that Shah Rukh Khan did a phenomenal job in the action-packed film and called him his ‘hero’.
Jawan, directed by Atlee Kumar, released on September 7 and has been breaking records at the box office. The film features Shah Rukh Khan in a dual role of a RAW agent and a gangster, along with Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, Deepika Padukone and others. The film has received rave reviews from critics and audiences alike, and has also impressed many celebrities from the film industry.
Vishal Bhardwaj praises Shah Rukh Khan and his film Jawan
One of them is Vishal Bhardwaj, who spoke highly of Jawan and Shah Rukh Khan at the India Today Conclave Mumbai 2023 on Thursday. The director said that no one could have done what Shah Rukh Khan did in Jawan and praised the film for its perfect execution.
While discussing espionage films, he cited an example of Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan, called it a ‘beautiful film’ and called the actor his ‘hero’. He said, “What Shah Rukh did in Jawan no one could have done. It was such a beautiful film. They showed perfectly what they wanted to show. He is my hero in Jawan.”
Vishal Bhardwaj also commented on the genre of espionage films in Bollywood and said that it is not explored much by the filmmakers. He further added, “We don’t make espionage films. This subject has not been dealt with by us because it is very thrilling and exciting, but it doesn’t offer you flying cars. Pathaan and Jawan are just a heightened imaginative world of filmmaking. They are not actual espionage films.”
Atlee on monologue on voting rights in Jawan
Meanwhile, Atlee Kumar, the director of Jawan, also opened up about the film and its iconic monologue by Shah Rukh Khan on voting rights. The director denied that the monologue was anti-establishment and said that he was just describing the meaning of responsibility through the dialogue.
Speaking about it, Atlee said at the event, “No (it is not anti-establishment), I am just talking about my emotion. I am a lay man. I am also a part of the society. I am just talking about my emotions and the film. You can take it whatever way you want. It is a common audience voice. It is the voice of Indian emotion. I am not specifying anything but I am talking about real issues. One should know who to vote for and how to vote and read the manual. I am just describing what responsibility is. This dialogue should connect with the audience in the right way. If a coach teaches a student how to goal, it is not for the match, it is for a lifetime. So I will say, a message for a lifetime.”
Jawan has crossed the Rs 1000 crore mark at the global box office and has become one of the biggest hits of Shah Rukh Khan’s career. The film has also been praised for its music by Anirudh Ravichander, its cinematography by G.K. Vishnu and its editing by Ruben.
On the other hand, Vishal Bhardwaj’s Khufiya, starring Tabu, Ali Fazal and Wamiqa Gabbi, premiered on Netflix on October 5. The film is based on Amar Bhushan’s novel Escape to Nowhere and revolves around a RAW operative who is tasked to find a mole leaking the country’s defense secrets.
