The Kashmir Files, a film on the genocide of Kashmiri pandits directed by Vivek Agnihotri, is doing extremely well at the box office. The film, which has already surpassed Rs 100 crore in less than a week, is anticipated to gross Rs 175 crore by Monday. The film has been hailed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and it is now tax-free in numerous states, including Gujarat, MP, Bihar, and Chhattisgarh. Following the encouragement of several BJP leaders to view the film, a local BJP leader in Rewari, Haryana, has organised a free showing of The Kashmir Files, which has enraged Vivek Agnihotri. He has referred to it as a “criminal offence.”

Vivek Agnihotri is upset with the free screening of The Kashmir Files by a local BJP politician in Rewari. Sharing the poster of the free screening on Twitter, Agnihotri wrote, “WARNING: Showing #TheKashmirFiles like this in open and free is a CRIMINAL OFFENCE. Dear @mlkhattar ji, I’d request you to stop this. Political leaders must respect creative business and true Nationalism and Social service means buying tickets in a legal and peaceful manner (sic).”

A local politician from Rewari, Haryana, has declared that he will host a free screening of The Kashmir Files in a park. This irritated Vivek Agnihotri, who demanded that politicians respect the creative industry. The filmmaker also stated that patriotism and social service include purchasing cinema tickets. He tagged Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar in his tweet, asking him to put an end to the local politician’s public screening in Rewari.

Later, Arun Yadav, the BJP’s state-in-charge in Haryana, responded to Vivek Agnihotri’s tweet by writing that he had spoken to the person in question and instructed him to cease screening the film, and that if he wanted to show it to people, he can do it in theatres. Agnihotri thanked Yadav.
