Vivek Agnihotri On Facing Difficulties During Production

The filmmaker also shared some of the difficulties he faced during production. He revealed that filming in Murshidabad, a key location for the movie, was nearly impossible.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he wrote, “The story of our new film, The Delhi Files, is set in Murshidabad. And it was impossible to shoot there and neither the government nor the police helps. As if it is a different country. We had to make sets and shoot in Mumbai. Demography imbalance is a real danger.”

His comments came amid ongoing violence in Murshidabad district, following protests against the Waqf Amendment Act, which led to two deaths and over 100 arrests.

About The Delhi Files – Bengal Chapter

At the heart of The Delhi Files: Bengal Chapter is a tragic chapter in India’s history. The film centres on Direct Action Day, also known as the Great Calcutta Killings, which took place in August 1946. The violence, mainly targeting Hindus in Calcutta and East Bengal, was triggered by political tensions between the Indian National Congress and the Muslim League. Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s declaration of Direct Action Day sparked riots, with estimates of the death toll ranging from 5,000 to 10,000.

Agnihotri has described the film as a bold effort to expose long-suppressed truths. This film is part of his Files Trilogy, which includes The Tashkent Files and The Kashmir Files, both of which tackled controversial historical topics.

Produced by Abhishek Agarwal and Pallavi Joshi, The Delhi Files: The Bengal Chapter is presented by Tej Narayan Agarwal & I Am Buddha Productions.
