‘Weird Marketing’: Kannappa Actor Gets Roasted Online After Warning Trolls Of Lord Shiva’s Curse If They Criticise The Film

Kannappa lands in controversy as actor Raghu Babu warns trolls of Lord Shiva’s curse over film criticism. Check how internet users reacted.

Telugu actor and producer Vishnu Manchu’s upcoming film Kannappa is making headlines, but not just for its star-studded cast. A recent promotional event took an unexpected turn after a cast member (actor Raghu Babu) made a controversial statement that left netizens unimpressed.

Kannappa Actor Raghu Babu’s Bold Warning To Trolls

During the event, Raghu Babu warned critics against trolling the film. He said, “If anyone trolls the movie Kannappa, they will face the wrath and curse of Lord Shiva…”

While some audience members found it amusing, others saw it as an odd and unnecessary remark. Social media users were quick to react, branding it as a desperate marketing tactic.

Internet Calls It ‘Weird Marketing Gimmick’

A Reddit user posted about Raghu Babu’s comment and it gained varied responses. One user sarcastically wrote, “Fear and religion have always worked in this country. I can’t wait to go to hell and be fried in oil because I’ve committed way too many sins.”

Another unimpressed netizen questioned, “What kind of weird marketing is this? Oh god!!!”

A user said. “As an ardent Shiv Bhakt… I can say he doesn’t have this much time…”

Others compared the situation to past controversies in Telugu cinema. A user commented, “In other words, another Adipurush on the way?” and referenced the backlash faced by Adipurush in 2023.

That's some unhinged marketing

About Kannappa

Directed by Mukesh Kumar Singh, Kannappa is based on the legendary devotee of Lord Shiva. The film’s cast features Vishnu Manchu in the lead role alongside Mohan Babu, R. Sarathkumar, Arpit Ranka, Kaushal Manda, Rahul Madhav, Devaraj, Mukesh Rishi, Brahmanandam, Raghu Babu, Preity Mukhundhan, and Madhoo.

Special cameo appearances by Mohanlal, Prabhas, Akshay Kumar, and Kajal Aggarwal further add to its hype.

Scheduled for release on April 25, 2025, Kannappa is expected to be a grand spectacle with a pan-India appeal. However, the recent controversy has shifted attention from the film itself to its marketing strategies. Whether this publicity helps or harms Kannappa remains to be seen.
